Diffability

believe

You just never know where inspiration may come from. Today I had a moment of inspiration as I listened to a radio interview of Theresa Lucas. Theresa has Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), which is congenital joint contractures in two or more areas of the body. It derives its name from Greek, literally meaning “curving of joints.” Children born with one or more joint contractures have abnormal fibrosis of the muscle tissue causing muscle shortening and weakness.

Theresa does not use the term disability. She prefers “Diff” ability. She does not like word “Dis” ability, because to her “Dis” means can’t. Theresa can, she just does it differently. And so the term Diffability.

Theresa is a very accomplished artist with a very unique technique for painting. And her painting is inspiring others with AMC to let them know they can also.

Her story has inspired me to look at things differently and to challenge myself when things seem like there is no way out.

What challenges are you facing that may need to be looked at from a different perspective?
