What did the grape say when it got squeezed? Nothing, it just let out a little wine. Life sometimes squeezes so tight we feel paralyzed. Unable to move or cry out for help. The burdens of this life are like a wine press drawing down on us to there is no juice left.
Yet that is where God calls us, to be broken bread and poured out wine. Grapes can not become wine until there is no resemblances left. They are made into something different, something better. In this age of instant gratification no one wants to make the journey but we all want to get the finishing medal. Without the process, the journey or trial there is no reward only rotting grapes on the vine.
We have been led to believe that once we become Christians life will be easy. Well that is not the case and Jesus told us this in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
We also tend to fall on the old prayer, “Lord give me patience and I want it Now!” Without the trials, how will we ever have a beautiful bouquet? The bouquet of a wine only comes through the maturing process, which again takes time. The maturing wine is kept in a cool dark place. Just like life sometimes we are lost and in the dark. Until the Master of wines comes along to release His best bottles. The process is not easy or for the faint of heart. But when we come out on the other side His sweet bouquet permeates our very being.
