In September of 2014 I was able to attend a Jeff Galloway running retreat at his Blue Mountain Beach home in Florida with fourteen members of TEAM 413. Olympian Jeff Galloway has coached over a million runners to their goals through his clinics, retreats, training programs, books and e-coaching. Jeff Galloway by far is the leading expert when it comes to running. His love and passion for the sport flows out of him. He has just announced a blogger program for sharing his tips. I’m honored to have been chosen to be part of this program.
Having been a runner since the 3rd grade I thought I knew about all there was about the sport. Well after spending a weekend with Jeff, I found how little I knew and how wrong many of beliefs were. That weekend changed my entire running life. And now I’m hopeful that sharing Jeff’s techniques will help others improve and fall in love with the sport.
So here are a few tips from Jeff Galloway:
1. “Running is the best stress reliever I’ve found. Research shows that running tends to activate the conscious brain which over-rides the emotional subconscious brain and manages the negative and anxiety hormones during and after the run.” For me personally running allows me to dump the junk of the day on the road. I always have a greater since of peace after a run.
2. “You can’t run a long run too slowly or take too many walk breaks. You’ll get the same endurance based upon the distance covered.” My mindset was always if you are walking you wimped out. Hearing Jeff explain his Run Walk Run method and then using it has totally changed my endurance training and racing.
3. “If you have a Run Walk Run strategy that is right for you on that day, it’s possible to feel good after every run-even the marathon.” I have never felt good after a marathon. It usually took me a week or two feel good. Using his method has allowed me to improve my times and feel great after a run. I took 10 minutes off my best 10 mile time using a “4 minute run 1 minute walk” method.
I will have more tips from Jeff coming soon.
