Carrying the load

The touching story of an 18-year-old high school student who's been piggybacking his 19-year-old classmate suffering from muscle atrophy around campus for the past three years has made waves online.

A Chinese student in Jiangsu Province, has spent the past three years giving piggyback rides to his best friend to ensure that he doesn’t miss any classes. Xie Xu, 19, attends Daxu High School, with Zhang Chi, 18, who has muscular dystrophy.  Muscular dystrophy is a group of muscle diseases that weaken the musculoskeletal system. It causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass, and makes it extremely hard to walk.

Xie carries his friend to class at least 12 times a day. He also exerts a positive influence on other students, who readily help Zhang. With their assistance, Zhang has never missed out on one single class.

Whose load can we carry today?
