Let’s GO! We can do this.
Let’s GO! We can do this.
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin]. Matthew 20:28
I have always been intrigued by the story of the fishermen dropping their nets and following Jesus. They not only dropped their nets but also left their boats, baskets, equipment, family, friends and homes. This always brings a question to my mind, ‘would I give it all up to follow Jesus?’
When I think about it, what have I really given up? A little time on Sunday mornings, maybe helping in the soup kitchen or serving on a church committee. Have I really left it all behind? Could I?
Have I sacrificed my time, money, talents or even prayed for others? I just wondering what life would look like if I gave up my sports team instead of just Sunday mornings? What about devoting as much time to reading the Bible as I do to checking Facebook? How about interceding for others in prayer instead of talking about them? Can I turn off the radio and wait and listen for Him? I have some nets to drop. What nets do you need to be untangled from and let go?
Let’s do this!
There is a great scene in ‘The Matrix’ where Neo becomes aware and unplugs. So many times we all wish we could unplug from life. Stop the world I want to get off. Yet, when have we taken the time to unplug?
Last week my wife and I had a ‘Wireless Wednesday’, where we unplugged. We turned off the phones and computers for 24 hours and decompressed. Instead of checking emails and latest thing on social media, we read, prayed and talked. It was a time of reconnecting for us and with ourselves. I found my mind was clear and thoughts and ideas came bursting forth like they never have before.
Knowing how liberating unplugging now is I hope to find that freedom more often. I will put time in my schedule to put down the technology and just be. We are human ‘beings’ not human doings.
“Be still and know thatI am God” Psalm 46:10
Find the time to unplug and just be…
Running has always been a great prayer time for me. It allows me to dump the worries and stresses of the day. But some days are very special, like running in the rain. There is something special about running in a down pour. I have always loved getting a good run in when the skies have opened up. The rain keeps me fresh and cools my body. It reminds me of God’s grace and love. He is constantly showering us with these gifts. Cleansing, making us new and loving us through our missteps in this adventure called life.
He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth. Psalm 72:6
Soak Him in and let Him reign down on your life.
